Preventing Drug Abuse Among the Youth Through Sports

The Alfred Polo foundation seeks to establish reasons why the youth engage in drug abuse hence affecting their productivity. The foundation also seeks to come up with ways to address and prevent drug abuse. There are a number of issues that cause the youth to engage in drug abuse with the most common being peer pressure, depression, and lack of a meaningful activity such as education or employment.

Youth engagement in sports plays an important role in preventing substance abuse among the youth. The benefits of engaging youth are significant. Positive outcomes of engagement include a decrease in the rate of substance abuse, a decrease in rate of crime, an increase in academic performance and a more meaningful connection with a youth’s community.
